This fall an unparalleled professional development opportunity is coming to the west coast—the annual meeting of the National Council for the Social Studies November 30-December 2, 2007.
NCSS has put together a conference program offering attendees more than 500 sessions, workshops, poster presentations, and clinics. This year’s conference theme, Crossing Borders-Building Bridges, addresses the connections that help educators and their students cross cultural, economic, geographic, and political borders. Sessions will focus on the special challenges that educators face in dealing with a highly diverse student population.
Featured speakers include national experts in teaching linguistically and culturally diverse learners, environmental citizenship, immigration issues, and the use of technology in the classroom. In addition, a number of sessions have been specially designed to focus on the needs of elementary teachers, novice teachers, and urban educators.
